Bonham ISD honors employees and students across district

The Bonham ISD Board of Trustees opened the meeting by recognizing staff and students from several campuses. At I.W. Evans the campus principal announced Amberly Kelton as employee of the month and introduced the paraprofessional of the month, praising their classroom culture and announcing a Jan. 30 halftime "heroes" event that will feature students playing at a basketball halftime show.
Carly Fowler, principal of Leonis Elementary, introduced third-grade student Andrea and read teacher remarks highlighting the student's reading skills and kindness. Bonham High School staff recognized Aubrey Townley and Henry Hunt as students of the month; teachers cited strong academic performance and extracurricular involvement. The board and administrators also acknowledged AJ Edwards for finishing as reserve champion in intermediate showmanship at the state fair.
"She just came up and gave me the biggest air hug in the entire world," the I.W. Evans principal said when describing the reaction to the employee recognition. Carly Fowler introduced Leonis Elementary's honoree: "Andrea is a student who leads with kindness," she said. The superintendent announced a new superintendent's coin to recognize students and staff going forward.
The recognitions were presented early in the meeting and were followed by routine business, including approval of several action items and an update on enrollment and attendance.
