Resident urges city action on overgrown sidewalks and low tree limbs

At the public-comment portion of the meeting, Bill Lang described sidewalks and street-tree limbs in several parts of town that he said obstruct walking and driving, and asked the council to clarify who is responsible for maintenance.
"There's places where you can't even walk. Grass is overtaking the sidewalks," Lang said, noting problem areas on 7th and 8th Streets and near the Walmart corridor. He said low tree limbs are beginning to strike vehicles and suggested the city or property owners "nip back" limbs, walking one street at a time to correct the worst locations.
Lang said some work will require homeowner action while some trimming could be done from the city right of way; he urged staff to identify responsible parties and to consider phased work to address safety concerns. Council members thanked Lang for raising the issue and indicated they would follow up with public works and code-enforcement staff.
