Edgewood ISD officials reviewed a District Vulnerability Assessment (DVA) during the April 7 workshop and responded to trustees' questions about physical-security findings and audit frequency. Chief of Schools Travis McKelvain presented the full report and confirmed that some exterior doors lacked identifying numbers on maps, which the district said the state wants corrected so locations can be identified quickly in an emergency.
Trustee Michael Valdez pressed for details on "peephole findings" and plastic shields; McKelvain said the DVA and accompanying recommendations identified doors and window vulnerabilities and recommended impact window film. McKelvain also explained that the district performs a three-year safety audit through the police department and that a DVA is conducted every four years. On procedural matters, McKelvain said each classroom has an iPad dedicated to the Raptor check-in system and that substitute teachers receive go-bag lanyards with campus protocols so they are aware of lockdown procedures.
