Supervisor Larry McCarrie raised concerns about reports that modular 'edge' data centers could be sited on the Tulare County Fairgrounds, which he noted is state property with a state board appointed by the governor and outside city or county direct control. McCarrie said county staff will pursue a temporary moratorium to allow time for analysis and to define what constitutes a data center in this context: "They're gonna bring a temporary moratorium on data centers, for us to consider in the very near future because we need more information," he said.
McCarrie said the county needs a definition that accounts for modular installations and repeated modules that could create cumulative impacts; he also said the county plans to coordinate with state and local elected officials and to meet with the owner of the proposed project for more details.
