Fairfield High teacher urges action on low 9th-grade reading levels, absenteeism

Katie Wade, a Fairfield High School teacher, used the public-comment period to urge the board to address what she described as low reading levels among the average ninth-grade student and gaps in the district's RTI process.
Wade said students are sometimes advanced into higher grades despite failing foundational coursework and called for a summer-school program and stronger interventions. She also raised concerns about chronic absenteeism, CCMR (college, career and military readiness) outcomes and issues with DAEP placements, and requested expansion of Bluebonnet resources to support earlier grades. The public comment was part of the open-comment period and drew no board response during the session.
