Mr. Craig told the board that state legislation now restricts District of Innovation (DOI) teachers from teaching K–5 reading or math beginning with the 2026–27 school year, and that in the subsequent year those restrictions will apply to all core K–12 classes. He said Fairfield ISD began preparations last year to comply with the new requirements.
Board discussion also touched on which legislative changes may be eligible for inclusion under the district's DOI plan. Mr. Craig reviewed items from the recent session for trustees to consider when updating the DOI plan, noting the impact on staffing and assignment flexibility.
