Castleberry ISD to adopt 175-day calendar flexibility under House Bill 2

Superintendent (Miss Smith Faulkner) told the board that House Bill 2 reduced the state minimum to 175 instructional days, which gives the district more flexibility to add professional learning days in August and schedule student-led conferences and a college day during the year. She proposed moving the student start date to Aug. 11 with meet-the-teacher activities on Aug. 9 and graduation and a half-day teacher workday in May.
The superintendent said the change will allow the district to restore professional learning time at the start of the year, provide funding for 6th'8th graders that had not previously been included and create flexibility for summer and Saturday programming. She noted staff will check impacts on special-education schedules and operational costs as the calendar is finalized.
