Canton ISD informed of state law changes and federal grant funding delay

During the superintendent’s report Dr. Barton told trustees that the U.S. Department of Education notified the Texas Education Agency of a delay in the release of Title II, Title III and Title IV funds for FY2025 due to an administrative review. The district said it expected later notification on the timing of those federal funds and that it will adjust planning as needed.
Dr. Barton also summarized several new state laws that will affect school district operations in 2025–26: Senate Bill 13 (library materials), Senate Bill 401 (homeschool participation in public schools) and Senate Bill 12 (parental consent before providing health‑related services). The board received the information as part of routine district updates.
