Businesses press Council on water softener restrictions; staff to prepare February report

During public comment, a resident identified by street address and the owner of the Comfort Inn and Suites asked the Council about the status of water softeners and whether an ordinance had been passed that affected softener use.
Interim City Manager Mallory Crecelius told the Council that Section 13.08 of the Blythe Municipal Code addresses salinity and water and that staff would prepare a report for the Council’s February meeting. Crecelius added that until the State allows higher total dissolved solids limits the City’s options are constrained because exceeding State standards could lead to fines. Mayor Joseph DeConinck said the City was working on the issue and recalled prior State enforcement actions that led to potential fines.
