Castleberry ISD adopts AMIRA and TXRL grant supports K–3 literacy baseline year

Becky Putney and Whitney Harper told the board that Castleberry ISD is a recipient of a Texas Reads/Texas Leads Literacy (TXRL) grant to strengthen early literacy in grades K–3. Putney explained the district adopted a new oral‑reading fluency assessment this year (MAP fluency) and will transition to AMIRA next year to provide both assessments and daily, aligned oral reading practice and teacher supports.
“AMIRA provides both assessments and aligned daily oral reading practice and teacher support,” Putney said, noting AMIRA is available in English and Spanish and will be used for TIA measurement. Officials emphasized that 2025–26 will function as another baseline year as the district collects data to guide instruction, and they outlined plans for literacy demonstration teachers and targeted professional learning supported partly by the Moody Foundation and other partnerships.
Trustees asked how the district will know strategies are working; staff responded that the district will reevaluate annually using release questions and benchmark comparisons and will provide updates in regular monitoring reports.
