Hillsboro High School Principal Blake Lipe proposed expanding math offerings for upperclassmen by adding Applied Math and Statistics. Lipe described the statistics course as teaching students how to work with populations and samples, summarize data using measures of center and spread, and present data in clear and meaningful ways; Applied Math will focus on applying math to business and personal finance contexts.
The board approved the addition of both courses on a roll call vote of 6-0 (motion by Nathan Kirby, second Kassie Greenwood). The additions will appear in the next course catalog and be scheduled for the upcoming school year.
