District outlines vaping deterrents for junior high and high school

Superintendent McBrain told the Hillsboro Community Unit School District #3 Board of Education that the district has rolled out immediate measures to deter vaping and other drug use at the junior high and high school. McBrain said the district informed parents and staff the previous day and listed specific steps already in place: "vape detectors in bathrooms, metal detecting wands and police canines in parking lots."
McBrain said the measures are intended to address concerns promptly and that additional steps may involve the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and the Health Department. The presentation was informational; the board did not vote on additional policy or funding at the meeting.
