Paradise ISD approves professional development waiver as five teachers pursue certification under HB 2

Paradise ISD trustees voted 7–0 to approve a Professional Development waiver to be submitted to the Texas Education Agency for the 2026–2027 school year. "A motion was made by Phil Erickson and seconded by Landon Smith to approve the waiver. The motion carried." The board recorded a unanimous vote.
Superintendent Robyn Gibson told the board that TEA has offered a waiver application for districts that will not be able to certify all teachers in core content areas by fall 2026 and that the district currently has five teachers "working through the process now, and should be certified by the fall." The waiver will allow the district to request regulatory flexibility while those staff complete certification.
