Palacios ISD board holds special meeting; accepts trustee resignation and delays action on superintendent transition

During the meeting the board approved the March 23, 2026 meeting minutes. "I make a motion to approve the March 23, 2026 meeting minutes as presented," Board Member Haley Garcia said; the motion, seconded by Trustee Dane Kubecka, passed with six yeas and one absent (Ron Laws). The board also voted to accept the resignation of Board Member Ron Laws; Haley Garcia moved and Carl Filip seconded the motion, which passed by the same 6-0 tally with one absence.
The board met twice in closed session. The first closed session at 6:01 p.m. addressed personnel matters and consideration of filling the trustee vacancy pursuant to Tex. Gov't Code §551.074. The board recessed into a second closed session at 6:43 p.m. to deliberate on the superintendent transition and to consult with legal counsel under Tex. Gov't Code §§551.071 and 551.129. When the board returned to open session at 7:52 p.m., it "took no action at this time" on the superintendent transition item.
The meeting concluded with scheduling announcements: the next regular meeting is set for April 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., with a special called meeting on April 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. A motion to adjourn, made by Brian Busby and seconded by Fabian Marroquin, passed and the meeting ended at 7:53 p.m.
