Paducah athletes qualify for regionals; district still seeking girls' head basketball coach

Athletic Director Eric Rekieta reported on April 23 that Paducah ISD sent 12 athletes to the regional track meet, with seven boys and five girls qualifying across running, jumping and throwing events.
Rekieta provided a list of qualifiers by name and event, including Ben Cruz (4x100, 4x200, 4x400, long jump) and Brella Smart (4x100, 100, 200, high jump, long jump). He noted that many marks were personal bests for the season and that coaches praised athletes’ work ethic. Rekieta also reported that Jr. High tennis had just started and that Darren Mackey qualified earlier for regionals in tennis.
Separately, the athletic program is still working to fill the girls' head basketball position; interviews are scheduled over the next few weeks.
The track regional meet is scheduled April 30–May 2, 2026.
