The Board met in closed session Aug. 18 to consider multiple personnel matters. After returning to open session, trustees approved the superintendent’s recommendations to hire Oscar Reyes as assistant principal at Marcia Garza Elementary School, Susibeth Elisarraras as assistant principal at Santos Livas Elementary School, Rebecca Youngberg as assistant principal at PSJA Memorial Early College High School, and Veronica Flores as assistant principal at PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School. The Board also approved Melissa Flores as Director of the Property Control Department.
Trustees tabled the hiring of a principal at Austin Middle School for further consideration. On a grievance filed as a Level III matter under board policy DGBA (Local), the Board voted to deny the remedy requested; the vote carried 6–0 with Trustee Cynthia Gutierrez abstaining due to reasons she noted in executive session.
On the record: Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias presented the personnel recommendations after the closed session. Board policy and Texas law govern the personnel and grievance process; the actions and the grievance denial were recorded in the meeting minutes.
