PSJA adds staff development days, expands ADSY and reports big gains in adult education and family engagement

The Board approved an amended 2025–26 school calendar that incorporates Additional Days School Year (ADSY) options and adds two staff development days — Sept. 1, 2025, and Jan. 6, 2026 — after Assistant Superintendent Dr. Orlando Noyola explained statutory changes (HB 1209 and HB 2) that altered minimum-day requirements and expanded ADSY to middle schools.
In an accompanying presentation, Dr. Noyola described the Family & Community Engagement department’s expanded offerings and participation gains: parent meeting participants rose from 7,454 in 2023–24 to 13,708 in 2024–25, and volunteer hours rose from 43,776 to 64,355. The district reported GED completers and a range of certificate programs delivered through partnerships with South Texas College and Region One, including phlebotomy, professional truck driving (CDL), welding and CPR/food-handler certificates.
On the record: Dr. Noyola said ADSY and calendar changes help mitigate summer learning loss and provide funding for extended instruction. Board members asked clarifying questions and then approved the amended calendar and the Family & Community Engagement report.
