Perryton ISD board declares Good Cause Exception to HB3 armed-officer mandate

The Perryton ISD Board of Trustees on May 18 adopted a resolution declaring a "good cause exception" to the armed-security officer requirement in House Bill 3 (Texas Education Code §37.0814). The resolution states: "The District's noncompliance is due to lack of available funding. And The District's noncompliance is due to lack of available qualified personnel." The measure passed by board vote.
Under §37.0814(c), a district may claim a good-cause exception if noncompliance results from funding or personnel availability; the board's resolution directs district staff to develop and document an alternative standard the district can meet under §§37.0814(d) and (e). The resolution was adopted during open session following the board's executive session and is recorded in the meeting minutes.
