Trustees finalize subcommittee charter for new cemetery and plan public recruitment

Trustees reviewed a previously drafted subcommittee charter for the town's new cemetery and confirmed their prior vote to create the panel. The chair said the group exists now in principle and the next step is to select public members once the application period closes.

"I brought this up last meeting, and we voted to create this subcommittee," the chair said while outlining the proposed membership: a trustee representative, the superintendent of cemeteries, a Select Board representative, a land-use department representative (the chair specifically suggested Mark), and three public members. Trustees debated whether to set membership at seven or allow alternates; several members said they prefer posting for 30 days and then deciding at the October meeting.

Trustees also reviewed the subcommittee's duties — site evaluation, confirming property boundaries, and initial planning — and discussed timing for the first subcommittee convening. The group expects to advertise the openings on the town website and in the Brentwood newsletter, accept applications for about a month, and have the subcommittee convene within 30 days of appointments.
