Parents at LRSD convocation cite neighborhood ties and communication as reasons to choose public schools

Two LRSD parents described why they chose neighborhood public schools and how the district can strengthen family–school partnerships. Eliza Bornay, an LRSD alum and Rockefeller Early Childhood Center parent, said neighborhood proximity and community ties made LRSD the right choice for her family.
Bornay described the neighborhood experience and convenience of local schools and urged visiting principals and talking to other parents before deciding. "We attend our neighborhood zone school...Door to door, it's a 6 minute walk, to drop off at the elementary school," she said. Angela Frierson Shirey added that honest, respectful dialogue and transparency between parents and schools are essential to improvement and recommended exposure to outside models as a way to bring new ideas to the district.
