Pampa ISD audit finds one door vulnerability at Lamar Elementary; district enacts retraining and fixes

Stuart Smith, PISD director of student services, told the board that a Texas School Safety Center intruder detection audit at Lamar Elementary identified a single finding in the Phase 2 exterior-doors check: Portable Building Classroom Door #8. Phase 1 (unauthorized-access attempt) and Phase 3 (classroom doors closed/locked) showed no findings, and a weekly exterior-door-sweeps audit also returned no findings.
The district has already taken corrective steps: all staff were retrained on Dec. 9; substitutes will be retrained by campus administrators as they report for duty; portable building door latches were replaced with pull handles; and door checks have been increased. Smith said the District Safety and Security Committee will meet to review and approve the corrective-action plan, after which documentation will be uploaded to the TEA Sentinel Portal.
