Mayor Chris Coats and the Town of Coats Board of Commissioners adopted a five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan on Feb. 12, 2026 following a presentation by Bruce Naegelen of the North Carolina Department of Commerce.
Naegelen reviewed the plan’s assessment of local strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and outlined strategies for implementation over the coming five years. After the presentation the Board approved the plan by unanimous vote; the minutes record the action as: "RESOLVED, to adopt the Town of Coats Economic Development Strategic Plan." Commissioner Shirley Allen moved the motion and Commissioner Marc Powell seconded.
