The Village Board voted to set a public hearing to consider a local law amending chapter 76 (peddling and solicitation) and to implement a 90‑day moratorium on issuing commercial door‑to‑door solicitation permits while the village writes the new law.
Mayor Halley said resident complaints about door‑to‑door sales drove the proposal and described a planned 'no‑knock' sign‑up for residents who do not want solicitation at their homes: “We are gonna amend our… laws and code to facilitate residents, homeowners to sign up for a no no knock kinda clause, and that will prevent anybody who does go door to door, from… you'll be on a list that you don't want that solicitation.” The board also approved a resolution to set a public hearing on the proposed local law and discussed scheduling for outreach before voting on the law at a later meeting.
The mayor said the moratorium will give staff time to draft verbiage and solicit public comment, and the village expects to bring the law back for consideration in April or May. The moratorium was described as a temporary, administrative pause on issuing new peddling permits while the village develops the ordinance.
