Mayor Hallie told the board that the planned drawdown of Greenwood Lake will not occur this year because of mechanical issues at the dam located in New Jersey. "It is not gonna happen," the mayor said, adding that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is procuring funds to repair the dam and that the village will schedule the drawdown next winter to avoid partial openings that could create hazards.
Trustee Matt Bett and village officials reported that a recent herbicide application was completed and the applicator reported the operation "went very well." Officials said they will wait approximately a week to 10 days for the herbicides to take effect before determining whether any harvesting is necessary. The board emphasized the cautious approach to avoid creating more problems by acting prematurely.
