Sedan council approves $683 repair, internship shift and routine bills

The City of Sedan council on Aug. 20 approved payment of bills totaling $63,602.11 and authorized repairs to a city road roller after receiving a staff report on equipment needs. Mayor Bryan Blankinship presided over the meeting that began at 5:30 p.m. During staff reports, Raven Darnall presented the July financial report and said the city’s general fund was approximately 80% expended.
Public-works staff member Jim Miller told the council that the roller’s rear brake caliper was destroyed and that the full caliper would cost $683.16 to replace. Janice Fine moved to purchase the part for $683.16, Adam Clark seconded the motion, and the council carried the motion. The council also approved Adam Clark’s motion to convert the summer help position to an internship at the same rate of pay, with Angela Evans seconding the motion and the council carrying it.
The approvals were taken as routine motions; the minutes record “motion carried” for the votes but do not provide a roll-call tally. The council’s next routine business items included bids for Main Street sign replacement and a request to consult KDOT about whether sign posts can be painted or must be replaced.
