Board reviews CIP list for state funding; rural fire-alarm projects remain on priority list

At the Kodiak Island Borough School District work session, staff reviewed the updated Capital Improvement Plan the district will submit to the state. Adam Powers described the facility-index work behind the application and said the process is competitive; "We're hopeful the state is gonna put the money into the schools like they need to," he told trustees, while also noting some state funding has recently prioritized disaster-level projects.
Board members questioned whether recently completed rural projects (notably Port Lions' fire-alarm work) should remain on the list or be adjusted for reimbursement. Powers said Port Lions' replacement was one of several like-aged systems in rural schools and that the district had contributed roughly $50,000 locally. He said the CIP document is not finalized and that staff will clarify whether already-completed work should remain listed or be removed before the district signs the final submission for the state.
