City says Commercial Avenue work briefly blocked school access; contractors to ensure entry

City Administrator Miss Wagner told the Smithville Board of Aldermen that work on the Commercial Avenue project began mobilizing today and temporarily affected access to a nearby school. "They actually started mobilizing today. They did block, some access to the school, which caused some issues, but we did have an on-site meeting with them, and, they will work to ensure that there is access to the school," Wagner said.
Wagner said staff had met on site with the contractor to resolve access issues and that construction should proceed tomorrow. She also used her report to notify the council of scheduling changes: the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting was moved from Tuesday to Thursday and the Jan. 6 council meeting has been canceled. The administrator added that City Hall will observe Veterans Day and two additional holidays declared by the mayor on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2; staff will be reachable by phone over the weekend if needed.
The mayor and aldermen did not request further public comment on the construction update. The council proceeded with the remainder of the agenda after the administrator's report.
