Fire and police updates: new gear and training, plus alarm over proposed OSHA standards

"The standards that they're putting in ... would basically put fire departments out of business," he said, describing requirements that could dramatically increase training time and apparatus costs and noting that required classes are not regularly available locally. Trustees discussed county-level pushback and the importance of coordinated testimony.
On policing, Jared (S12) said the department received new Axon tasers and portables; taser training was completed and portables were reprogrammed and placed in service using DCJS grant funds. He estimated the portables cost roughly $31,000 and said approximately $20,000 remains available in that grant fund. Trustees asked for updates as equipment is fielded and for coordination on any public-safety training plans.
