Board members and SHIP directors reported they attended an Early Childhood Iowa (ECI) board meeting in Des Moines to speak against a proposed consolidation of counties into larger ECI regions.
Chair said the proposed redistricting would move the county from smaller cooperative groups into regions that combine many counties, and he argued that would not be best for children and families in the county: "I believe for children and families here, what they're trying to do is, in essence, force certain counties to work together or go into bigger conglomerates." He and others told the state board the change could reduce locally tailored behavioral-health services.
Supervisors said they raised the concern formally and that the matter will continue to be monitored; no formal board action was taken at this meeting.
