Employees and unions urge board to include staff and unions in healthcare talks

During public comment, employees and union representatives urged the board to slow the process and include department heads and union leaders in discussions about benefit design. Tony Wingard of the sheriff’s office said the process felt rushed and asked why unions and staff were not involved earlier.
"This whole thing to me feels rushed," Wingard said. Corey Davis, president of CVOA Local 7103, asked the board to invite department heads and appropriate union officials to the conversation so they could help develop workable ideas. "We had a membership meeting last night and it completely took over the conversation," Davis said, urging the board to use union channels as an information funnel.
Department heads including Dan Bridal (conservation) and others asked for a department-head meeting or alternative communication (email, OneDrive, surveys) so employees could receive timely, accurate information without attending public board meetings. County treasurer Tina Bertrand and health director Kevin Green also supported clearer outreach and earlier timelines for future procurement cycles.
