Chair explained the change was to ensure two supervisors could attend a mediation meeting without violating open-meeting or quorum rules. "To achieve this, Supervisor Nelson cannot serve on the law-enforcement authority in order not to violate quorum rules as per Iowa code," the chair said while describing the administrative swap.
The board moved to remove Mark Nelson and appoint David Dietrich as the county representative on the Law Enforcement Authority so that other supervisors could participate in mediation. The motion carried 5–0.
Board members framed the swap as procedural: it does not reflect disciplinary action but instead ensures the county has the appropriate representative available for the upcoming mediation process.
