The council unanimously accepted a modification to the city’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program agreements to expand wind‑retrofit work at Fire Stations 1 and 2, including replacement of apparatus bay doors to meet hurricane standards.
Fire Chief Ian Kemp said the city originally entered mitigation grants in May 2023 for roof, door and window hardening and later discovered existing apparatus bay doors were not hurricane rated. The city asked for additional funding to replace the doors; staff reported the modification increased federal funding for Station 1 from $251,717.28 to $589,247.10 and for Station 2 to an amount reported by staff in the presentation; the combined increase was reported as $628,830.98 and the grant covers subrecipient management costs. "This modification grant agreement also provides 100% federal funding subrecipient management costs," Kemp told council. The council adopted the resolution accepting the modification and noted the local match will be funded from the community investment tax reserve.
