Montgomery committee approves $4,500 to fix Town Hall doors after fire-safety review

The Montgomery Town Hall Committee approved a $4,500 expenditure to repair and update door hardware at the Town Hall, the committee said at its April 8 meeting.
Tosca Smith, chair of the Town Hall Committee, presented a list of building repairs and said the work is in response to fire-inspector concerns. She told members the committee has hired Teaks Locksmiths, with Selectboard approval, to bring the doors "up to standard" and to ensure they operate easily in an emergency. The committee voted to pay $4,500 from the Town Hall budget for the work.
Committee members said the locks, knobs and door closers have been in poor condition for some time and that the expense is intended to address safety and code issues. The committee noted the expense will be charged to the Town Hall budget and that the work follows Selectboard approval of the vendor.
The committee did not record a formal motion maker or vote tally in the minutes for the $4,500 approval beyond the statement that the amount was approved.
