River conservancy outlines multi‑partner proposal to conserve Montgomery Town Land

Remy Crettol of the Vermont River Conservancy presented an overview of a proposed Town Land conservation project that could include a parcel owned by Chas Salmon, the Jewett Property Town Land and Riverwalk Park. The proposal would involve the Town/MCC, Chas Salmon, VRC, Cold Hollow to Canada and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board.
Commissioners said the project could provide conservation, recreation and educational benefits to the community. Crettol said VRC will gather additional information and return to the Montgomery Conservation Commission at its May 6, 2026 meeting with more details and next steps.
The presentation did not include binding commitments from any partner; attendees agreed the project is worth pursuing pending further information and technical and funding review. The commission encouraged public engagement and scheduled follow-up consideration at its next meeting.
