Council approves Quincy Farm vision: Anderson House removed, Hopkins House to be rehabilitated

Parks Project and Operations Manager Emily Black presented the Quincy Farm Vision document and asked Council to memorialize conclusions reached earlier. Manager Black said the document is high level and "tonight’s goal is to memorialize the conclusions reached at the prior Council meeting." Council coalesced around removing the Anderson House, rehabilitating the Hopkins House (preserving exterior historic character while remodeling interior), allowing small private events on the West Side, and allowing small-to-medium private events on the East Side in the Big Barn.
Council debated undefined terms in the document ("small," "medium," "private," "commercial") and agreed those specifics will be developed through future policy documents and event policies. Councilor Dave Heller asked that the City seek public input prior to any demolition of the Anderson House. Mayor Pro Tem Earl Hoellen moved to approve the vision (as memorialized), Councilor Susan Maguire seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. Staff said the East side farmhouse renovation project will go out to bid this summer and a contract will come before Council, with construction anticipated to begin in early fall and the vision feeding the 2027 annual plan.
