Habitat for Humanity describes regional critical-repair program and asks towns for referrals

Carolyn Reed, introduced to the committee as the executive director of North Central Mass Habitat for Humanity, described the affiliate's critical home repair work and how it might partner with Hubbardston residents. Reed said the program operates across roughly 30 towns, is currently building five new units (a duplex and a three-unit site), and last year completed 42 critical home repairs across the region.
"Last year, we did 42 critical home repairs," Reed said, laying out the program's recent scale. She told members the affiliate helps older or low‑income homeowners with urgent repairs such as ramps, roofing, and accessibility work and that Habitat is exploring multiple funding paths — including town partnerships and Community Preservation Act (CPA) strategies — to expand services.
Committee members asked how Habitat's program would interact with CPA restrictions; Reed said the affiliate conducts outreach through councils on aging and social-service agencies and can assist with applications. Members noted the town's limited CPA pool but encouraged Habitat to continue outreach and to discuss potential volunteer and fundraising support with local partners.
