A presenter updating the Town Board said the rink project is moving from design development into construction documents, with drawings expected to be complete by the end of next week and construction documents targeted for completion on Feb. 27.
"We're looking to have that set of drawings complete by the end of next week," the Presenter said, adding that a four-week bid phase would follow and a bid opening is tentatively scheduled around April 1. The presenter said geotechnical borings and a report will be available in early February and that the design separates the new addition by a code-compliant firewall to allow phased occupancy.
Board members discussed schedule risks and options for value-engineering if bids exceed the town's budget. The Presenter recommended issuing a separate RFP for a minor asbestos-abatement scope so that abatement can be completed before town in-kind demo work in April, which could speed the overall schedule. The board noted that keeping certain interior work as bid alternates could preserve flexibility and reduce near-term sticker shock while allowing grant opportunities to be pursued.
The Presenter said the project aims for substantial completion by November and that the rink could open by then, with some finish work into December. The board agreed to review updated drawings and budget numbers in the coming weeks before proceeding to bid.
