Town Board opens public hearing on 2026 preliminary budget, leaves hearing open

The Town Board of the Town of Alexandria on Oct. 15 opened a public hearing on the preliminary 2026 budget, a package that includes budgets for several water and sewer districts. Chair led the meeting and asked that copies of the preliminary budgets, which are posted at townofalexandria.org, be reviewed by interested residents before adoption later this year.
"Public hearing is open for the budget for 2026," the Chair said as the board voted to open the hearing. Sandy, the town clerk, described the tax-cap override filing as a precautionary measure: "This is strictly a precautionary thing because sometimes they throw things in that even the town accountant isn't aware of until after the fact." The board also opened a separate public hearing on Local Law Number 2 of 2025 to preserve the option of a tax-cap override, while stating no override is planned at this time.
The board left both hearings open to gather comments and refinements. Staff and board members said they will continue budget work—making small adjustments and pursuing grant opportunities, notably for sewer expansions—before final adoption in November.
