Sedgwick County approves $82,089 telematics contract for Public Works vehicles

The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners voted March 20 to approve a Sourcewell contract with Samsara Inc. for telematics equipment and services for Public Works, at a cost of $82,089 and good through March 26, 2026.
Lee Barrier, speaking for Public Works, told the board the county has used the vendor since 2022 and that the system covers 132 vehicles and equipment. Barrier said the service provides vehicle monitoring, forward-facing dash cameras, crash alerts, stolen-vehicle location and tools for driver safety training. "Public Works has been using Samsara Incorporated for vehicle telematics services since 2022," Barrier said.
The county said the agreement covers software and technical support with no additional hardware fees. Board members had no questions before a motion to award the contract was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The telematics system will be used during operations such as snow and ice responses and to assist in investigating vehicle crashes. The board did not request further follow-up before approving the contract.
