The Town Board of Alexandria heard an update on the Sportsplex project and moved to award separate contracts for asbestos abatement and air monitoring so those tasks can proceed without delaying the main construction schedule.
Andrew, a town project representative, said the project went out to bid in early March and contractors attended a walkthrough last week. "We have approximately 2 more weeks until the bid opening on the 31st," he said, and noted sealed bids are due at 1:05 p.m. on March 31 at the town offices. He said contractors submitted questions (RFIs) and the town expects to issue a bid addendum by the end of the week to clarify the bid documents.
Andrew reported that asbestos and PCB-containing caulking were found at the arena portion of the project and that the town issued separate RFPs for abatement and for air monitoring. He recommended awarding abatement to ICCI and monitoring to Green to Green Consulting so sampling and remediation could begin quickly. "If we were to make the award tonight, [they] could start as early as next week," he said when asked about a start date.
The board approved a motion by Tim, seconded by Chris, to award both the abatement and monitoring contracts. After the vote, Andrew said he would send the awarded proposals to Brad to sign and coordinate the contractors' mobilization.
The board also confirmed that the public bid opening for the Sportsplex remains scheduled for March 31 at 1:05 p.m. and that addenda will be posted as needed prior to that date.
