School advisory committee briefs board on enrollment, outreach and strategy

The School Advisory Committee reported enrollment numbers for Hague students in the Ticonderoga district, new SAC appointments, a planned meeting with BOCES officials and a strategy to decouple academic supports from taxation/legal matters.
The Town's School Advisory Committee reported that, per Ticonderoga Central School District records, there are 36 students from Hague (six of whom actually reside in Essex County), 31 from Putnam and 616 from the town of Ticonderoga, for a combined 683 students in the district. The SAC noted that Hague itself accounts for approximately 30 students on the district roll.
The SAC reported on a December 23 Zoom with Angelique Johnson Dingell of the New York State Education Department, who indicated there were no grounds for state intervention in the district's academic performance. SAC members said they will continue to engage with the district and BOCES officials and welcomed two new SAC members, Bruce McPherson and Kathleen Kaufman. The SAC emphasized it is decoupling fiscal equalization work from the academic-improvement work and will continue outreach and strategic planning.
