Several in‑home supportive services (IHSS) workers and SEIU representatives presented a petition at the Solano County Board of Supervisors meeting asking the county to pursue higher wages for IHSS caregivers.
Eloise Wright identified herself as an IHSS worker and said the petition had "more than 430 signatures from Solano County residents" supporting wage increases. She and other IHSS speakers described survey results the group cited: more than 7,000 IHSS workers in Solano County, high rates of multiple‑job holding, difficulty paying rent, and food insecurity among caregivers. "As IHSS workers continue to go without the resources they need to provide the time for themselves and their families, many are being forced out of the profession," she told the board.
Other speakers from SEIU and IHSS echoed the call, listed many petition signatories, and warned that caregiver departures threaten elder safety and increase pressure on county services. The board heard the petition and public testimony during the items-from-the-public portion of the agenda; no budget decision was made at the meeting.
