Board proclaims May 2026 Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

The Solano County Board of Supervisors voted 4–0 to adopt a resolution recognizing May 2026 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month.

Staff reading the item said the month "commemorate[s] the arrival of the 1st Japanese immigrants to the United States on 05/07/1843" and cited U.S. Census estimates for local and national populations. The resolution text described the AANHPI community in Solano County as "richly diverse, comprising more than 73,300 residents," and recognized Filipino residents as the largest subgroup locally.
Mr. Zen Hunter Ishikawa accepted the proclamation on behalf of APAPA. "As an immigrant from Japan and … I am very honored to accept this proclamation on behalf of APAPA and the Asian Pacific Islander communities here in Solano County," he said. The board recessed briefly to allow photos and thanked staff for the presentation.
