Public health director reports lull in respiratory viruses, grant applications and regional coordination

Public Health Director Fran Tougas gave a bi-monthly update to the Marshall County Board on June 2. Tougas listed staffing updates, a community health assessment, and a summer program called "Feeling Fit N Fine" for children. She reported that flu, COVID-19 and RSV are currently in a lull in the county and that there were no measles cases in Marshall County though two cases exist in northwest Minnesota.
Tougas also noted a health advisory related to travel history for Ebola from central Africa, described hantavirus transmission through rodent feces, and said the county is pursuing a Healthy Homes grant application. She reported regional coordination efforts including work on a Mutual Aid Agreement for emergencies and said funding for a Regional Dental Coordinator position is under review.
