South Cle Elum’s superintendent told the council on May 19 that the town-wide water-main replacement project got off to a slow start after crews discovered multiple unrecorded utilities in the trench, but work picked up later in the week.
"The watermain replacement project has gotten off to a slow start due to finding multiple different utilities where they weren’t supposed to be, but has picked up this week," the superintendent reported. He added there have been three main breaks since the start of the project and that nearby Cle Elum will now bill South Cle Elum for water loss on leaks. The council was also told the first construction project progress meeting was held May 14 with ten people attending and onsite inspector updates provided.
Council did not take a formal vote tied to the project at the meeting; members asked staff to continue regular reporting. The ledger of project issues will be used in upcoming contractor coordination and inspector briefings, and the superintendent said staff will continue updating council as the project progresses.
