Equestrian club asks council for designated arena weekend after scheduling changes

Essel said the club has held shows at the Ingles arena for more than 30 years and runs about 10 shows annually but lost traditional May and October dates this year, forcing many of the club’s events into a three-month stretch that strains riders and animals. "We hold an average 10 shows a year up at the arena...We would like to see, possibly, a designated weekend for our club," Essel said, asking the council to intervene with the arena facilities manager so the volunteer nonprofit can stabilize its season.
Essel noted the club provides low-cost family-friendly equestrian events and supports youth and high school rodeo development. The clerk said there were no further public commenters at the time.
