Town of Hague adopts comprehensive plan update, board issues negative environmental declaration

The Town of Hague board voted to adopt an updated comprehensive plan during its Dec. 9 meeting and declared the town the lead agency for environmental review.
The board opened a public hearing on the comprehensive plan update and heard limited public comment. After the board asked staff to read the standard environmental review questions, a town staff member stated that the project "will result in no significant adverse impacts on the environment, and therefore, a negative declaration is issued." The board then voted to declare the town lead agency and to adopt the negative declaration before moving to adopt the comprehensive plan update itself.
Board members discussed creating or refreshing an advisory committee to review zoning and code items recommended in the plan. One resident who spoke in favor of the plan said the executive summary "presented it tonight prior" and urged the board to implement priority items. Board members agreed to revisit committee composition and noted the board will have additional opportunities to refine code language as the next steps.
The adoption followed motions to open and close the public hearing, a motion to declare the town lead agency for environmental review, and a motion to adopt the plan; all motions carried during the meeting.
The board thanked staff and volunteers involved in drafting and reviewing the plan and said the town will follow up with implementation steps and committee appointments in coming months.
