At its Sept. 8 meeting the Newport Planning Board recorded the following formal actions:
- Adopted the staff report as findings of fact (unanimous voice vote). - Voted to continue the Flurry Properties application to the November meeting at the applicant's request (unanimous voice vote). - Granted dimensional variances for the hotel site (density: allowance to reach 164 rooms where 153 are permitted; parking variance to reconcile required spaces) and approved a Category 3 special-use permit for the expanded hotel use in the waterfront business zone. The board attached conditions including a recorded permanent harbor-walk easement, a written shuttle-action plan for guest transport and limited delivery hours (morning-only). Votes on the variances and special-use permit were unanimous.
All approvals were made subject to final administrative review and the applicant's satisfaction of the conditions noted on the record, including easement recording and submission of the shuttle plan before final permitting.
