School Advisory Committee asks NYSED for help; SAC disputes district refusal to provide enrollment totals

The town’s School Advisory Committee reported it sent a joint letter on Oct. 3 to Angelique Johnson Dingell, deputy commissioner for P–12 instructional support, seeking assistance addressing the Ticonderoga Central School District’s reported poor academic performance. Council member Bass said the letter was endorsed by Regent Roger Catania and described the action as "almost a last resort."
SAC also reported an internal estimate of roughly 30 Hague school-age children enrolled in Ticonderoga, but said its request to the district for the district-wide total was declined; an official told SAC the request was interpreted as an interrogatory or an incomplete FOIL request and cited "section 89 of New York officer's law" as the basis for declining to answer. SAC encouraged town parents to consider running for the Board of Education and reminded the public the next BOE meeting is Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
