Council asks HOA to ban parking on one side of Lakeside streets after emergency-access concerns

Council members raised public-safety concerns after the fire department reported that emergency vehicles and ambulances may be blocked on some Lakeside streets when cars park on both sides.
President Schmidt said the fire department had voiced concerns about vehicle access; First Sgt. Aita of the Sheriff’s Department said he will look into what the Sheriff’s Office can do to help alleviate the problem. After discussion, Commissioner Jeremy Newnam requested that the Town send a letter to the Lakeside homeowners association asking them to prohibit parking on one side of the street for public-safety reasons. Commissioner Schmidt seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.
The council recorded the action as a directive to send a formal letter to the Lakeside HOA; no ordinance or parking regulation was enacted at the meeting.
